1. Have students conduct a search for newspaper and magazine articles, research reports, and Internet sources about global warming. The list of References at the end of the Briefing provides one place to start such a search.
2. Have students retrieve data from their searches and place them in a data retrieval chart organized to present arguments for and against the theory that human activities are warming Earth.
3. Have the students do an Internet search on NASA's web page. What types of research is being done on global warming or climate change topics? How is NASA using satellite imagery to investigate climate change? (Note some NASA resources are listed below.)
4. Have the students investigate international treaties that attempt to deal with global warming. The 1987 Montreal Protocol and the 1997 Kyoto Conference are landmark international gatherings dedicated to reducing the amount of greenhouse gases.
5. Have students investigate what the United States has and has not done to deal with global warming. Look at the history of the Clean Air Act and other pieces of national legislation that deal with these topics.
6. Have students read reports of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
